PROFILES OF SWITCHON TELETHON : Meet Esther Crow!

Get to meet Esther Crow who rocked out at the SwitchOn Telethon with her new environmentally-conscious album!

One of the many artists that have performed at the recently concluded SwitchOn Telethon was my amazing new friend, Esther Crow, based in New York City. She will be having a new album coming out this coming June 25th called “All Together Now”, of which you can expect more from in future articles and podcast episodes! Esther is one of the many artists representing North America and this is part of a special series of articles featuring some of the artists who showed their amazing talents to the world as part of SwitchOn Telethon. In case you missed all the excitement, watch it again here (in three parts): https://www.facebook.com/SwitchOnYourRadio

1. For those who don't know you, what is your music all about?

The music on my upcoming solo album for kids (All Together Now, out on June 25th and produced by Dean Jones) is all about animals, the planet, and social/environmental justice. It's mostly rock and roll, but with a lot of other influences because I love so many genres. I also put out an album in 2017 with my funky rock band for kids, Thunder & Sunshine. I wrote all those songs as well, and the music has a fun, throw-back vibe circa 1970's/1980's!

2. What is the kids music scene like where you are being represented?

Here in the U.S.A., kids music is quite eclectic, since so many cultures are represented. That said, the scene has not always reflected the wide range of diverse communities throughout our big country. As you know, there is a big push in the industry to include more diverse acts-- both on the airwaves, and at live venues. It seems change is happening-- albeit, a bit slowly. Children need, and deserve, to see themselves and their cultures represented in kids' music. Thankfully, that's happening more and more.

3. Could you tell us a little about the animal species that you will be raising awareness for? And why you chose that animal?

Truthfully: I didn't choose a specific animal!! But I will say because of this event: I am now aware, sadly, that there are MANY more animals who are endangered that I didn't even know about: like the chimpanzee and the orangutan, which breaks my heart. I'm honored to be a part of both the North American and European segments of the telethon, and I was asked by Sam Smiler to perform my song "Caterpillar" since the butterfly is one of the European animals represented. So, I'll go with the butterfly! I believe TWO are endangered: the Apollo and the Monarch.

4. How does it feel to perform for such a global audience for the very first time?

Mind-blowingly COOL! Especially since I have family in both America and Europe.

I was very honored to be asked by Twinkle Time and Sam the Smiler.

5. What are your overall thoughts on the upcoming event?

I'm very glad it's happening. It's such an important cause-- our endangered animals. Animals help so much with the environment and the balance of our ecosystems, and that should be everyone's #1 priority: saving these animals and saving the planet because it's the single most common thing we all share. And environmental justice is linked to so many other causes: like immigration and racial justice. Very happy to be a small part of helping our planet and our animals. Everyone please donate whatever you can!

Thanks ever so much to the amazing Esther Crow for sharing her thoughts on this amazing event! Her new album "All Together Now" is coming June 25th to music platforms everywhere! Oh, and be sure to watch this space for more from Esther including reviews and podcast interviews! And also watch out for more "Profiles of SwitchOn Telethon" features where we get to know a little more about the artists who took part in this amazing global effort!
